DOUG UNPLUGS ON THE FARM IS COMING SOON!

DOUG UNPLUGS ON THE FARM SKETCHBOOK DRAWINGS!

So now that I have a pretty good idea of what the story will be, I move on to more detailed sketches.

In this story, we meet more members of Doug's family- his Grandbots, well at least his Grandma-bot in these drawings anyway. Grandpa-Bot appears in the book as well.

There is also a little farm girl who Doug befriends and as you can tell, I had fun designing her, too!

DOUG UNPLUGS ON THE FARM THUMBNAIL DUMMY

So here is the story for my new book DOUG UNPLUGS ON THE FARM just starting to come together.

This is the way most of my picture books start off- with scribbly little thumbnails- and up until a few months ago- coffee.

DOUG UNPLUGS ON THE FARM PRELIMINARY SKETCHES

I thought it would be fun for our favorite robot Doug to venture out into farm country since he's already discovered the delights of the city. Besides, I really like drawing pigs!

These are the very first ideas I had for the book. I usually don't worry if it doesn't make sense or if the drawings are off, I just want to get down as many ideas as I can at this stage.

I really enjoy this part of the process because anything is possible.

Ah, so you can see here that a story is starting form- Doug and his parents are stuck in a ditch! You can also see that I'm jotting down some notes I may use later.

Now the ideas are starting to go in a direction and I'm exploring how Doug could use his senses and the information he's acquired from his computer while out on the farm.

I don't think I could ever get tired creating adventures for Doug to have!

NO NAP! YES NAP! MORE SKETCHES

Here are some early sketches from my new book NO NAP! YES NAP!

Whenever I sit down for the first time with a new manuscript, I always make sure I've blocked out a few hours and have plenty of paper. This is such an important stage in the development of a book for me and I want to make sure I have all of the room and freedom to do my best.

MY EXHIBIT AT THE NCCIL

I didn't have a blog back in 2012 when I had my exhibit, THE FANTASTIC WORLD OF DAN YACCARINO at the NCCIL, so I thought I'd post some photos from it.

It looks like the show will be traveling to the Children's Museum of Houston from June to August 2014,  the Lexington Public Library in Kentucky from August to October 2014, and then to the Greenville Art Museum in South Carolina from April to June 2015.

You can see a little video I put together of the show here.

Check it out if you can!
